Hailing from the East and West ends of Los Angeles, Magic Wong and Rock 1 are two DJ’s who prefer putting the music entirely before the spotlight, infusing tremendous life and energy into every event they touch. The duo first met in the trenches of International Creative Management (ICM), a premier Hollywood talent agency, where they worked together in the motion picture and television departments. After learning that they shared years of experience and an immense passion for the art of spinning vinyl, the two embarked on a mission to move crowds all over the city.
In October 2004, after playing one gig together, they were asked by the owners of The Hideout (Santa Monica) to sustain a weekly DJ residency, which ultimately launched the duo into the Los Angeles nightlife scene. Their impeccable style, expansive song selection and ability to read any crowd attracted a loyal Westside following and as a result, they turned The Hideout into one of the Westside’s most sought-after destination spots on Friday nights, despite the venue’s humble foundations.
They soon navigated their way into Hollywood venues, playing individual events until the Summer of 2006 when they were offered a Saturday night DJ residency at Republic, one of the city’s premier venues. Magic Wong and Rock 1 proved up to the challenge of holding down a fickle and unforgiving Hollywood crowd, bringing new flavor and creativity which moved crowds week after week.
They have performed at countless venues in and around Los Angeles including, Blvd 3, Sugar, Les Deux, Area, The Standard, Vanguard, Cabana Club, Green Door, Libertine, Play, The Dime, The Sunset Tower Hotel, Holly’s West, V-Lounge, Pink Taco, The Beverly Hills Hotel, Siren Studios, Quixote Studios, Ma’Kai Lounge and Cinespace to name a few.
They have worked with a sleuth of corporate clients including The CW Network, Disney, Tom Ford, Loeb & Loeb, Fred Segal, Aids Project Los Angeles, LA Direct Magazine, TBS, TNT, International Creative Management, Creative Artists Agency, CBS, NBC, Ruder Finn, American Crew, Li-Ning, Starfish Events, SNL Communications and Gina Wade Creative.
Magic Wong and Rock 1 attribute their ability to stylize and incorporate all genres of music as the main quality which separates them from most other DJs out there. They are not two aspiring actors out in search of fame…They are two DJs out to move crowds here…there…and all over the world…
By and large, their story is still being written…
